Jenna Elise Horenn

Currently lives and works in Denver, Colorado

Born 1991 in Oceanside, California. Raised in a highly creative environment. A mother who masters all creative forms - jewelry design, interior design, recycling / upcycling items in variety, creation and appreciation of all aesthetics, to name a few. A father who incorporates his constructive, mathematical mind into his wood craft - specializing in high end custom stairs. Naturally I began creating at a young age, observing, and learning from my parents’ talents, knowledge and the privileged exposure they provided. Soon aesthetics, precise creation, appreciation for quality and attention to detail became important forms of expression in the entirety of my world. I began to develop a feeling for this internal and external sensational essence, eventually to share and connect this expression with others. It felt to be the most important and necessary avenue to communicate - no words needed. Having spent most of my early life feeling shy, insecure, and quiet; artistic practices acted as a voice and a way to be assertive. A voice that felt dignified.

Throughout my life thus far I have been taught and practiced many forms of art. Dance was the first; ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and modern classes. During that time, I began painting as well. My love for watercolor is a memorable emergence when taking lessons from a well-known painter who lived down the street from my childhood home. Botanicals were the primary subject and would forever be a love and source of intrigue. Then moving to Durango, Colorado I further emerged myself into the dance and visual art worlds. Practicing dance 6 days a week; winning ‘Dancer of the Year’, becoming a member of the National Art Honor Society, participating in my first collaborative murals, and curating local art shows. These moments, now a teenager, I learned an extraordinary amount about myself, others, and the affect they could have on me. Although many positive milestones occurred, alongside came the hardships. As I became more aware of my physical body, dance started to feel like an unachievable profession for my future due to negative commentary directed at my “body type”. Commentary so intrusive both my physical and mental health began to decline. Ballet was the first to let go of, and after graduating high school I let go of the idea of dancing as a profession in total. Painting became my palliative grace. I went on to attend Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design graduating April 2014 with a BFA in painting and drawing, the birthplace of my obsession for truly visualizing and creating beauty of interest in a variety of forms. Participating in several important exhibitions including “Visons and Viewpoints” at the Lincoln Center Art Gallery, Fort Collins, Colorado; “The Athena Project Celebrates Women Printmakers” at the Aurora Cultural Arts District Gallery, Aurora, Colorado; “With Between Beyond: It Could Not Be…” at Core New Art Space, Denver, Colorado.

Years after college graduation is when all my experiences, practices, and goals began to connect. Working in retail, making art, and a spark of curiosity for thrifting donated and unique items - attempting to find my path. I realized I did not have to choose between art or clothing. I could combine my passions and share them with others; as well as become a positive influence for individual expression. Experiencing trauma in order to keep me from following my dreams as a youth was not going to stop me now. Leadership courses, internal motivation, and the desire to re-celebrate my sensational essence I learned as a child began the developmental stages of Cultivated Wonders. Almost three more years of research, painting day and night, learning and communicating with others, thrifting while educating myself on sustainability and the detrimental impact the fast fashion industry has on our environment, practicing self-love and massive support from my family; my dream, my passions, my vision have come to fruition here.
